In Memoriam
Theo Greene, former Rowland librarian and member emerita, died on July 14, 2005. She set up the Rowland Institute library in the early 1980s. She was a chemist and wrote the text Protective Groups in Organic Synthesis (2 editions, Wiley). I remember Theo coming to the library many times after she retired to look up citations in Chemical Abstracts, particularly while she was revising her book.

Elemental-Is it Time to Revamp the Periodic Table
“Oxford ecologist Philip Stewart has designed a new periodic table of the elements, and it's a hit. American schools are placing orders daily for Stewart's table, and the Royal Society of Chemists recently sent a copy to every British secondary school. Stewart's is the only remake to achieve widespread adoption since Dmitri Mendeleev invented the original periodic table in a fit of brilliance in 1869.”
