The Rowland Institute for Science, a private, non-profit, interdisciplinary scientific research organization, merged with Harvard University on July 1, 2002, and henceforth will be called the Rowland Institute at Harvard. The Rowland Institute at Harvard is a basic research organization originally founded by the late Edwin H. Land in 1980 to advance science in a wide variety of fields. Currently members of the Institute are performing research in over a dozen selected areas of physics, chemistry and biology. During the 20 year history of the Institute, its scientists have discovered and published unique and exciting research results in their chosen research areas.
